Projects

RoRI is a hub for new ways of doing collaborative, applied metascience.

All of our projects are collaborations between researchers and research funding organisations. Our partners enable access to vital data, provide opportunities for experimentation, and offer pathways to translate metascientific evidence into practical, real-world solutions. All of our projects involve funder organisations from multiple countries, enhancing the relevance of our work beyond the context of a single funder or system.

Current RoRI Projects

Our work programme is structured around three priorities:

  • In EXPERIMENTS, we test and analyse specific interventions in funding processes to understand their effectiveness and ensure funders can more confidently modify their processes for the better.
  • In SYSTEMS, we conduct large international comparative studies of core elements of research systems, to understand and make recommendations on good practice and future trajectories.
  • In PLATFORMS, we build, curate, maintain and improve platforms and infrastructures that combine data/information from multiple funders or other parts of research systems, with the goal of enabling better metascientific analysis and improving research systems and cultures.

Future models of funding and evaluating transdisciplinary research

“I think the value of RoRI really lies in the projects. A key strength of RoRI as an organisation is that it’s brought together competencies that normally sit in different sectors. As such, RoRI is a living example of transdisciplinary research.”

Jon Holm, Research Council of Norway (RCN)
